Chris A Short Photography  Fishing Photographs

FISHING

As I mention on the “Hunting” page, I came to Southwest Missouri for the photography and ended up with an education in fishing and hunting as a bonus. Since my beginnings here in 1986 I have had the opportunity to fish and hunt all over the country in my capacity as a photographer. After  working from Alaska to the Caribbean I can honestly say that in this part of my life theres no place I would rather be than at home with family in Southwest Missouri. As I write this the days are getting shorter and the air is cooler. Soon it will be fall again and time to let the air out of something. As far as the fishing goes I think the photography is as much about showing places that people see and WANT to go fish as much as it is showing pictures of fish.

HUNTING

I didn`t grow up hunting. I grew up in the city. I had a couple experiences hunting as a kid like going with adult family members. My Dad made a run at bowhunting back in the day when the treestand was a new concept and the compound bow was yet to be invented. I think given the time commitment involved and our limited accessibility to hunting ground made it more prudent for us to remain involved in an indoor archery league as opposed to bowhunting whitetails. At any rate, my hunting career exploded once I got to Springfield Missouri in 1986. I really came here initially for the photography. My previous job required  me to spend lots of time on the road in rural farm areas traveling for months at a time. There wasn`t much else to do in the evenings so I started fishing farm ponds and such and that eventually led to wanting to work in the fishing and hunting industry. In this part of the country literally no one that I know who fishes ONLY fishes. They also hunt.

Not Fishing, Not Hunting, Everything Else………..For now

EVERYTHING ELSE

This gallery isn`t by any means less important than or less of an influence on me than the Hunt and Fish photography. It`ll  just be a short term catch all for the stuff that didn`t fit neatly into the other galleries. I`m trying to keep this as simple to browse as possible. I can`t do that with thirty different categories of galleries.  In the end, I`ve made my living as a photographer in the fishing and hunting industry for over thirty years. I run a camera for a living and I hunt and fish but I also do other things. These are photos of some of those things.

Chris A Short Photography – Shooting Related Photography

Shooting Gallery

The shooting gallery is just that…….It`s a gallery of shooting related photographs that are not necessarily related to hunting. If you got to this website thru the CreeksideMercantile.com website then you get the connection. If you got here thru a different conduit such as a search engine then you can figure out the connection to the shooting related photos as a side step from the hunting related photographs. If you are appalled by both then this website is not likely for you.

LIVESTOCK

The land my family lives on has been in my wife`s family for five generations now. They were always cattlemen and the ground continues today in that tradition. Not coming from that background I initially had a struggle finding my place in the structure of the cattle operation. I still struggle with it at times but it gets easier everyday once I get into a routine. On retirement I spent nearly two years away from photography after having a camera in my hand for most of the last 48 years. Once I picked it up again my focus became life on the farm as opposed to hunting and fishing. I`ll still hunt and fish going forward but my photography interest is now shifted to our life on the farm and documenting the daily tasks that are required to accomplish that goal. Now I shoot what I want, when I want, for as long as I want. During this period in my life in retirement as I transition from traveling photographer to old guy with a camera, I`m working to make my Ag related farm images available thru stock licensing. They will be up and ready for use by late spring on Adobe Stock. I will make more announcements related to this on my Instagram profile below.

ON THE FARM

As I mentioned in the copy on a previous page, when I retired a couple years back I took a break from carrying a camera every day.  I did that for 48 years and was ready for a break. I thought I had a pretty good idea where I was going and the path forward to get there. New doors opened. Some I went thru and looked around and made a decision whether I wanted to stick around or just pass. At some point I started to remember all of the mornings I spent on the road in over 30 years driving back and forth to work in amazing light and not being able to stop and shoot what I wanted instead of what someone else was directing me to shoot. It occurred to me that I could now shoot whatever I wanted to at any time. Or not. MY DECISION! So………..I`ll be back on the camera documenting what the daily tasks that take place here at home. This gallery is a sampling of those images. And More to come!
